Custom Privacy Fence Installation — Cromwell, CT

This residential fence project in Cromwell, Connecticut was designed to provide privacy and separation from a neighboring condominium complex while working around several challenging site conditions. Because of the significant grade change along the property, portions of the fence extend nearly three feet above the surrounding ground, making structural strength and stability especially important.

Complex Installation

To create a strong foundation, we used 2½-inch, Schedule 40 industrial-strength steel posts, driven approximately 4–5 feet into the ground with a hydraulic post pounder. The vinyl fence posts were then sleeved over the steel using specialized fence “donuts” to properly center and secure the vinyl around the steel posts. This system gave the finished fence the clean appearance of a traditional vinyl privacy fence while providing substantially greater rigidity and support below the surface.

Tackling the Grade Challenge

Another major challenge was navigating the fence line past two large, mature trees. Conventional post-hole excavation in these areas would have been extremely difficult due to the extensive root systems. Using the hydraulic post pounder allowed our crew to drive the steel posts deep into the ground with far less excavation, giving us the structural support we needed while minimizing disturbance around the trees.

Before and After

The finished installation provides the homeowner with a clean, attractive privacy barrier from the adjacent condominium property while addressing the difficult elevation changes and site conditions. By combining vinyl fencing with an industrial-strength steel post system, we were able to deliver a fence that maintains the desired residential aesthetic while providing the strength, rigidity, and long-term durability required for this unique application.
